Biography

Sergeant Ray Fino was born on July 13, 1949, at Balboa Naval Hospital in San Diego, California. The second of seven children, he was raised in a military household by his father, Antonio Fino, a United States Marine, and his mother, Josephina Fino, a devoted homemaker. From an early age, Ray learned the values of discipline, responsibility, and service.

Ray proudly served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War as a Tactical Communications Chief with Company D, 4th Battalion, 23rd Infantry Regiment, 25th Infantry Division. In combat operations, he was responsible for maintaining critical communications—serving as the lifeline of his unit during some of the most demanding conditions of the war.

For his honorable service, Sergeant Fino was awarded the Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, and the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal.

Like many Vietnam veterans, Ray faced challenges adjusting to life after war, carrying the unseen wounds of service, including post-traumatic stress. Through perseverance and strength, he rebuilt his life and continued serving his country in a civilian capacity. He dedicated 30 years of service at Naval Air Station North Island, working as a pipe fitter in support of U.S. military aviation operations.

In retirement, Ray remains committed to giving back, volunteering as a handyman at his local Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW)post, supporting fellow veterans and his community. He is the proud father of three sons—Mark Anthony, Christopher Michael, and Raymond Fino Jr.

Sergeant Ray Fino’s life reflects resilience, quiet leadership, and a lifelong commitment to service—both in uniform and beyond.
